James Theron Lindsay James Theron Lindsay, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of both the military and his church community, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024, at the age of 82.
James, known affectionately as Jim, was born on November 27, 1941 to Theron Lindsay and Dale Andersen in Blackfoot, Idaho. He spent 20 years of his life serving his country with honor and distinction in the United States Navy, as submariner, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer.
Following his illustrious military career, Jim embarked on a new chapter, contributing his expertise to the defense industry. With a fervent commitment to excellence, he served faithfully for 27 years at Lockheed Martin in missile defense.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jim was a pillar of his community, serving as a beacon of faith and compassion in his role as Bishop for the Hannah and Decatur wards of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His unwavering devotion to his faith touched the lives of many, providing guidance, support, and solace to those in need.
Jim’s greatest joy and source of pride, however, was his family. He shared 54 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Penelope, together building a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Together, they raised four children, instilling in them the values of integrity, resilience, and compassion that defined Jim’s character.
Though he is no longer with us in body, Jim’s legacy of service, kindness, and love will endure in the hearts of all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Penelope; his children, Scott (Felica) Lindsay, Theron Lindsay, and Rachael (Jason) Silvas; six grandchildren Bregan Lindsay, Aeryn Lindsay, Adrianne Lindsay, Brihannon Lindsay, Adrian Silvas and Samuel Silvas and host of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly. Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebekah, who is interned at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
While we mourn his passing, we take comfort in the knowledge that he has been reunited with his loved ones in the embrace of eternal peace.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 6:30PM at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel, in Decatur, Alabama. Visitation will be from 5:30PM- 6:30PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to March of Dimes, in honor of Jim’s lifelong commitment to serving others.
