MORGAN COUNTY– Morgan County Drug Task Force has won the award for Narcotics Unit of the Year for 2013-2014 by the Narcotics Officers Association.  Here is a statement from Sheriff Ana Franklin of  the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department:

“I would like to announce that the Morgan County Drug Task Force won the award for Narcotics Unit of the Year, 2013-2014, by the Narcotics Officers Association.

The Morgan County Drug Task Force has been involved in multiple federal cases, and has investigated almost a thousand meth labs, thousands of cases of meth, cocaine, marijuana, and undercover operations. They were one of the first task force units to actively work ephedrine sales and have issued hundreds of warrants for individuals purchasing over the limit.

This team also works at building relationships with other agencies and has cooperated with me and my desire to provide community education and involvement as an effort to prevent drug abuse. They help with many schools, churches and civic organizations. They are part of community corrections and drug court liaisons and have been willing to work with the courts and the district attorney’s office to give the offenders a second chance when needed, but they are aggressive in the courtroom when children or repeat offenders are involved.

Due to their efforts and cooperation with them and our Patrol and the Criminal Investigation Division of Morgan County crime rate for all crimes reported, other than drug offenses have been reduced by 30%. This is a direct result of this team’s efforts.

This award is not based on a single event, but rather a continuous fight, everyday, to make a difference.

Thank you to the Morgan County Drug Task Force and to all our supporting agencies and personnel and to the citizens that have helped us by their information that lead to some of these arrest. We could not have done this without all of your help. It takes everyone working together to make a difference.”
