Wynell Smith peacefully entered her heavenly home on Sunday, September 3, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 94.
She was born on January 11, 1929, in Madison County, TN, the daughter of the late Manley Albert and Georgia Lanell Wilbanks Davis.
Wynell dedicated most of her working career as a hostess and waitress at the former Hut Restaurant and also the former Georgia’s Restaurant. Her friendly smile and exceptional customer service skills brightened the days of countless patrons throughout the years. She made everyone feel welcomed and valued with her genuine hospitality.
As much as she enjoyed her profession, Wynell found true joy in her family. They were the center of her world, and she always went above and beyond to ensure their happiness. Family gatherings during the Christmas season were particularly special to Wynell. She took pride in decorating her home with beautiful ornaments and creating a warm and festive atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. She poured her love into every meal she prepared, ensuring that each dish was made with care and attention to detail. Her family was truly blessed by the delicious meals she lovingly served at countless gatherings.
Her loss leaves a void in the lives of those who cherished her dearly. Wynell is survived by her daughter, Donna Hornburger and husband Ron of Jackson, TN; granddaughter Dawn Cox and husband Craig; grandson, Kipp Hornburger and wife Chasity; great-grandchildren Lexi Cox, Bree Hornburger, Aiden Cupples and Callan Willis.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John W. Smith and two brothers, Johnny Thomas Davis and Billy Chiles Davis.
SERVICES: A funeral service for Wynell will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2023, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors, with Rev. Mark Pendergrass and Donna Hornburger officiating. The family will begin receiving friends at 9:30 a.m. and continue until the service time of 11:00 a.m. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring Wynell’s life and sharing memories of her.
