FLORENCE – Pop music fans might think that today’s Top 40 hits are performed on the latest cutting-edge instruments, but actually those instruments originated decades ago.

In “Fiddlers, Banjo Players and Strawbeaters: Alabama’s First Pop Musicians,” Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m., at the Florence Indian Mound Museum, Alabama Folklife Association director emeritus & fiddle enthusiast Joyce H. Cauthen will showcase the down-home origins of Alabama’s thriving music culture.

During her talk, Cauthen will use authentic instruments so that the audience can be fully immersed in the music.

This free event is presented by the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area, Alabama Humanities Foundation, University of North Alabama and Florence Indian Mound Museum.
