WINSTON COUNTY-The Winston County Rescue released a statement concerning the medical attention given to a patient who was located in an area that was to iced over for vehicles to reach them:
“Friday at 9:58AM Winston County Rescue was dispatched along with Helicon Vol Fire and Rescue to a medical call in our coverage.
While attempting to respond to the scene the crew on Medic 1 as well as first responders found that the road to the residence was still iced over and completely impassable by vehicles, even though the vehicles including our ambulance are 4×4. Our crew decided it was best for the patient to at least begin receiving care while awaiting a plan for evacuation, so they grabbed the gear off the ambulance and hiked through the woods to the patient. While attending to the patient Paramedics from WCRS and Helicon Fire along with firemen and our county commissioner Rutger Hyche Winston County Commissioner District One devised a plan to evacuate the patient by boat to a nearby boat ramp the ambulance could access thanks to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Marine Division.
Thanks so much to everybody for their help during this and huge shout out to the crew of Medic 1 for their dedication to the community and patient care in rough conditions.”
