Decatur, AL, Gears Up for UpDog Challenge Canine Disc International Finals at Point Mallard Park

DECATUR-The excitement is soaring as Decatur prepares to host the highly anticipated UpDog Challenge Canine Disc International Finals (UPDIF) at Point Mallard Park’s Spirit of America Fields from April 2-6, 2025. This premier event will welcome over 300 elite human-disc competitors and more than 530 canine-disc competitors from around the world, showcasing the remarkable skills and teamwork between dogs and their handlers.

Set against the beautiful backdrop of Point Mallard Park, the competition will span five days, offering a thrilling mix of high-flying performances and precision-based challenges. Spectators can expect to witness impressive athleticism as teams compete in a series of disc-related events designed to test speed, agility, and coordination.

Event Schedule:

  • Wednesday, April 2 – Far Out (320 teams) – long distance game and Boom (228 teams) – accuracy game
  • Thursday, April 3 – Freestyle Performance (60 teams) – disc tricks to music, Time Warp (380 teams) – speed game and Spaced Out (285 teams) – accuracy game
  • Friday, April 4 – Freestyle Performance continued (60 teams), Greedy (310 teams) – strategy game and FunKey (205 teams) – agility/disc combo game
  • Saturday, April 5– Freestyle Criterion Round – top 40-50% of teams from the Performance rounds, Throw N Go (435 teams) – accuracy game and 7UP (190 teams) – agility/disc combo game
  • Sunday, April 6- Four Way Play (420 teams) – strategy game and Frizgility (330 teams) – agility/disc combo speed game

Canine competitors must display discipline and sportsmanship throughout the event. Any dog exhibiting disruptive or aggressive behavior will be subject to disciplinary action, which may include removal from competition for the remainder of the weekend.
