FLORENCE – TVA will begin a dam safety improvement project at Wilson Dam as
part of TVA’s ongoing commitment to keep its power system reliable for the people and
communities of the Tennessee Valley.
The work is scheduled to begin on October 5 and includes replacing the chains on all 49
spillway gates, which are important components that allow TVA to safely manage water flows
during operations and major weather events. Crews will also perform routine maintenance on
two of Wilson’s generating units that help supply reliable energy to homes and businesses
across the region.
During the project, which is expected to last up to six months depending on the weather
conditions, Wilson Dam Road will be closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic to ensure the
safety of workers, the public, and critical infrastructure. There will be signs and road barriers in
place to notify the public of the closure.
