Wilmer Lee “Shorty” Warhurst, 85, of Russellville, Alabama, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Burns Nursing Home. Born in Colbert County, Alabama, he had lived in the area most of his life and was a retired truck driver with Morrow Trucking Company. He was also a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith.
Visitation with family and friends will be Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville, from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. with funeral services beginning at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel. Neil Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in Bethsaida Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Ray Smith, Charles Ray Smelser, Floyd Jr. Willingham, Brady Warhurst, Wade Willingham, and Melvin Smith.
Mr. Warhurst is survived by his daughters: Sherry Smith and husband Pete, and Rena Smith; sister, Mary Smith; grandchildren: Ryan Smith and wife Lindsey; and Erin Smith Grissom and husband Jonathan; great grandchildren: Sylvie Smith, Heidi Smith, and Kerby Grissom; mother of his daughters, Olean Warhurst; and nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding him in death were spouse, Varnes Warhurst; parents: Rufus and Effie Warhurst; brothers: Rufus Warhurst, Jr. and Gilbert Warhurst; sister, Marie Yocum; and son-in-law, Mark Smith.
The family thanks Burns Nursing Home, Kindred Hospice, and Dr. Almirol and staff for the care given to our loved one and to the funeral home for their assistance.
