Dr. Willie Clyde Jones
It is wonderful that God has blessed us with the technology that will permit us to express ourselves for occasions such as this, since so many of us would not be able to attend the home-going of Dr. Willie Clyde Jones, who was a great educator, dynamic preacher, the exemplar of a family man, and our “Dean of Students” at historic Stillman College.
I am William Henry Caldwell, and I am a proud honor graduate of Stillman College where Dean Jones served as the best “Dean” ever in the history of that institution. As students, he knew all of us by name, and he also preached on occasion for Chapel Services at Brown Memorial. He attended every major student related event. During the period that I proudly proclaim as “The Golden Years” for Stillman College, Dr. Willie Clyde Jones made sure that the campus was a safe place and thriving learning environment for all in attendance. As a student in the Stillman College Choir at the time under the dynamic leadership of Professor James Arthur Williams, I sang and played piano at Bailey Tabernacle. During that time many of us were proud to matriculate at Stillman College under the dynamic leadership that included Dr. Harold Stinson, president, Dr. Willie Clyde Jones, Dean of Students, Dr. B. B. Hardy, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Professor James Arthur Williams, Chairman, Department of Music.
As a retired full professor of Music at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio where I also served as chairman of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts and director of the Grammy nominated Central State University Chorus, when I needed new robes for the 150 member Central State University Chorus, Dr. Willie Clyde Jones and his wife Kay traveled to Ohio to Central State University and measured very student in the chorus for a much needed new Robe. I know I could have used a local vendor, but I wanted the best vendor so I used Dr. Willie Clyde Jones. The internationally acclaimed Central State University Chorus members have worn those robes in Italy, France, Germany, Austria, and the United Kingdom.
Dr. Jones played a major role in the lives of so many students, and I am so proud to be one of them. He was our Dean and will be truly missed.
