William W. Elam 1929 – 2025

William Warren Elam, born on May 1, 1929, in Alamo, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, in Collierville, Tennessee. He was 95 years old.

Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Nelle DeLoach Elam; his daughters, Lisa Elam Kenny and husband Chris, and Leslie Elam Graves and husband Frank; and special family members Zach Rowland and Rose Sebba Rowland; and his cherished grandchildren: Chris Elam, Kyle Elam and wife MaryEsther, Brad Rowland and wife Amy, Daniel Graves and wife Sarah, Elizabeth Graves, and Sarah Graves Chambliss and husband Matthew. He also leaves behind a legacy of love through his great-grandchildren: Connor Elam, Ethan Elam, Wyatt Elam, Mackenzie Murphy, Cole Elam, Tyler Rowland, Audrey Rowland, Collin Rowland, Sam Graves, Abby Graves, and Ellie Graves. Bill was preceded in death by his son, William Franklin Elam, and grandson Eric Michael Rowland.

Bill was a proud Marine who embodied discipline and strength throughout his life. He became a life-long educator, teaching in the Forestry Department for 31 years at Mississippi State University, conducting research, and traveling internationally for MSU. Bill was also known for his love of the outdoors. His sense of humor and pursuit of excellence brought joy and admiration to those around him. Whether spending time with the family he loved or enjoying nature’s beauty, he lived a life full of purpose and connection.

Bill’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his legacy bring comfort to his loved ones as they celebrate a life well-lived.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 18, 2025 at First United Methodist Church in Starkville, MS. Visitation will be held from 1:30 – 2:30 in the sanctuary with service to follow at 2:30.
