Willliam "Sonny" Malcolm Smith William Malcolm “Sonny” Smith, 83, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021 in Nashville, Tennessee. Sonny was born April 9, 1938 to Woodrow & Ollie Mae Stroup Smith.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Amber Leigh Smith; parents; sisters, Jacki Wallace, Patsy Crowe & Lynn Swindle.

He is survived by his wife, Eva Claire Lewter Smith, Prospect ; son, David Smith of Elkton; daughter, Kellye Smith (Keith) Norton of Athens; granddaughters, Kasey Gowan of Athens, Britney (Jacob) Lewter of Prospect, and Amanda Smith of Elkton; great-grandchildren, River, Kason & Kennedy of Prospect; brother, John (Susan) Lott of Decatur; brother & sister-in-law, Owen & Mary Ann Lewter and sister-in-law, Vicki Durham all of Dellrose; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 24, 2021 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, AL.

Funeral Services will be Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, AL at 2:00 PM with Bro. Eddie Woodard and Bro. Chris Bolt officiating. Burial will follow at Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, AL.

William “Sonny” as he was called for his lifetime, was born in Decatur, Alabama. He entered the US Air Force at the age of seventeen in 1955. He remained active duty for twenty years at which time he retired at age thirty-seven in 1975. He and Eva Claire retired to the Elkton, Tennessee community where they continued to live. He and his wife, Eva Claire, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary May 22, 2021.
