William Lindsey Hamilton Sr, loving and devoted husband, father, and pastor, peacefully left this earthly home on Thursday, June 1, 2017 surrounded by family. Born on Nov. 26, 1934 in Rome, Georgia to Melvin and Lora Hamilton, he was a caring middle brother to nine siblings. In his passing, he leaves so many to cherish his memory. William is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Imogene; their four sons, Lindsey, wife Vickie, Mickey, wife Sandra, Kerry, wife Theresa, and Ryan, wife Damaris; and one daughter, Carole Pongetti, husband, Michael; as well as eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
During William’s eight years in the U.S. Navy, he served in the Korean Conflict and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He then went on to pursue his greatest passion, to know Jesus and to make Him known, by attending seminary at Tennessee Temple University and pastoring several churches throughout Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama over the past 49 years. After seminary, he and his family moved to Florence, Alabama in 1975. He was currently the pastor of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church and leaves behind a faithful and loving congregation. All who heard him preach knew this: William loved a corny joke or two, was always proud to introduce his family, including his “most beautiful and favorite daughter-in-law” (as long as the other daughters-in-law were not in attendance), and that he loved and worshiped the Lord with all of his heart.
We rejoice that William is finally in his heavenly home where the fish are always biting, Georgia football is always on, the Atlanta Braves win the World Series every single year, and where his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ is walking alongside him on streets of gold.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses in CTRU at ECM for the loving care they showed to their husband and father. As well as a special thanks to doctors Paul and Dorene Morris for their exceptional care.
Services will be held today, June 4th at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church, 7150 Guston Street, Florence, AL. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. followed by a message from Wendell White and David Collins at 2 p.m.
