“Bro. Bill” went to be with the Lord three days ago after a long and well spent life. With his passing we have an opportunity to pause and reflect on the driving force in his life. At the end of considering his vast and varied interest anyone could readily come to the conclusion that the glorification of God was the ultimate goal of his life. After accepting the Lord at an early age and publically professing his faith in Jesus Christ at Valley Grove Baptist Church, he went on to serve the Lord as a preacher of the Gospel in Texas, Colorado and his beloved, Alabama. His demeanor would easily lead one to believe that we could not be busy enough about the Master’s work and this pace was not slackened for over sixty years. As we consider these few words, we would do well to consider what might be written as the epitaph of our own life. “For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, and not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9.
