William Francis Ottman, known as Bill by friends and affectionately as Papa by those who loved him, took his last breath after a short illness on July 18, 2021. He is now reunited with his beloved wife of almost 70 years, Carolyn Ottman, who preceded him in death Oct. 2019. Bill moved to Huntsville in 1968 after retiring from the United States Navy. He also proudly served in the Korean war.
Bill is also preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Ottman and Richard (Rick) Ottman; his sister, Almina Ottman; and his son-in-law, Jeff Lee. He leaves behind his two children, Lynn Ottman Lee and Michael Ottman (Aimee); six grandchildren, Sean Lee (Amy), Jason Lee (Alicia), Shanna Inman (Jimmy), Lauren Floyd (A.J.), Michael Ottman (Mallory Reynolds), Matthew Ottman (Julia Keller), and their mother Suzanne Cooper; eight beautiful great grandchildren, Courtney Musso (Taylor), Rachel Lee, Graham Lee (Julie Miller), Grace Lee, Grayson Lee, Lexie Inman (Hunter Poe), Maddie Inman, and Brodie Inman; and the most recent blessing was his great-great-grandson, Adler Lee Musso, who will get to grow up hearing all about the amazing man his Papa was.
Bill considered being a father his biggest accomplishments. His family was everything to him. He was always there for them through their ups and downs, and taught them to enjoy every aspect of life. He passed down his love of fishing in Lake Guntersville to some his grandsons, and his love of Jesus to everyone who knew him. His tireless love and devotion to his family were evident throughout his life all the way up to his final days.
As a longtime member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, he will be missed by many- his sense of humor, the stories he told and the kindness and love he shared.
Visitation will be Friday, July 23rd 2021, at Aldersgate Methodist Church, Bailey Cove Rd. from 4:00 pm-5:00 pm. The memorial service will immediately follow at 5:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Huntsville Hospital Foundation Hospice Family Care.
