William Ferrell Bland, age 70, of Killen, left this life to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014. Visitation will be today from 5-8 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home, Florence. The funeral service will be Thursday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m. at Cliff Haven Church, 1601 Andrews Ave., Sheffield. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Bishop Neal Wright, Bishop Jim Williams, and Bishop Brian Sutton will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, Florence.
Mr. Bland was a Vietnam veteran having served in the United States Navy. He was retired from International Paper, Courtland. He loved fishing and raising vegetables and flowers, and dearly loved his little dog, “Pistol.”
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sue; children, John Allen Bland and wife, Kathy, of Ardmore, Okla., and Chanel Fay Williams and husband, Mark, of Muscle Shoals; brother, Lawrence Bland; sisters, Sue Roth and husband, Bill, and Vickey Dennis; grandchildren, John Marcus Bland, Jameri Chanel Williams, Logan Tyler Williams, Jason Hanback, Kellsy Best, and Kimmy Best.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cliff Haven Church Children’s Ministry.
