brooksWilliam Dennis (Bill) Brooks, Jr., age 85, of Florence, Alabama, died at his home May 11, 2015.

He was a member of the Glendale Church of Christ where he served as an elder and a song leader for many years.

Bill Brooks was a Godly husband, father, grandfather, friend, and Christian example to all who knew him. He loved God, and raised his family in a Christ-centered home. He was a wonderful song leader and loved learning new songs. He knew music and spent countless hours in his chair with his hymn book open whistling the songs as he learned them so he could teach them to the church members. He taught many singing classes. He loved playing the guitar, telling stories from his past, joking around, fishing and so many other things. He was a retired Electrician. He was an awesome dad. He was a loving husband. He will forever be loved and treasured by his family for the love, care, and unwavering devotion he gave to his beloved wife, “Blondie,” as he affectionately called her, during the many years of her illness.

He was preceded in death by his sweet, loving wife of 67 years,

Wilhelmina Brooks; parents, Dennis and Esther Brooks; sister, Kathryn Harbin; and son-in-law, Gerald Jackson. He is survived by his son, Dennis Brooks (Debra); daughters, Charlotte Jackson Rogers (Allen); LaDelle Willis (Buddy); Patricia Huffaker (Stanley); grandchildren, Lynn Grigsby (Todd); Doug Jackson (Mitzi); Keith Jackson (Brandi); Cheryl Souther (Will); Scott Johnston (Bridget); Michael Huffaker; Melissa Mosley (Derrick); Brooke Dobbins (Michael); Katie Huffaker; Matt Brooks (Mitzi); Leann Burgess (Dan); Drew Brooks (Monika); great-grandchildren, Evan Grigsby, Olivia Jackson, Brooks Jackson, Jace Jackson, Jolie Jackson, Carley Souther, Dylan Johnston, Trey Johnston, Brady Johnston, Belle Huffaker, Maggie Huffaker, Jill Huffaker, Seth Mosley, Luke Mosley, Sawyer Mosley, Sydney Brooks, William Brooks, Paisley Brooks, Ava Burgess, Samantha Burgess, Nora Burgess, Finn Burgess, Abigail Brooks, Ella Jo Brooks, Catherine Brooks.

Visitation will be at Greenview Funeral Home, Florence, Alabama, on Wednesday, May 12, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Ministers will be Joel Caudle and grandson, Doug Jackson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Lonny Harbin, nephew; grandsons, Keith Jackson, Scott Johnston, Michael Huffaker, Matt Brooks, Drew Brooks; grandsons-in-law, Todd Grigsby, Will Souther, Derrick Mosley, Michael Dobbins, and Dan Burgess.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX, 75231 or the Alzheimer’s Association of Alabama, One Perimeter Park South, Ste. 1000 North, Birmingham, AL, 35243.
