William C Carlton
February 28, 1954 – December 12, 2024
Billy, known to his friends as “Backhoe Billy” passed from this earth on 12/12/24.
He was preceded in death by Russell Carlton (Dad) , Elizabeth Carlton ( Mom) , Russ Carlton ( Brother), and Spot ( Dog) .
Survivors are his brother Bobby Carlton , nephew Drew Carlton ( Sarah ) , and their children Eva Carlton, Andy Carlton and Margot Carlton, and his niece Elizabeth Carlton (Paul).
After graduating from The University of Alabama, he moved back to Huntsville to work as a trim carpenter, a real estate appraiser, and as an entrepreneur. He owned a BBQ carry out, an apartment complex, and a cabinet business. He then became an earth moving equipment operator for a local contractor and shortly afterwards started his own backhoe business where he excelled for many years. He said I’m not cheap, but I’m worth it. He loved backhoe work and completed many projects all over Huntsville.
Billy loved Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He adored his nieces and nephews and they adored their Uncle Billy.
Billy has many friends from work, the Elks Lodge, and Lisa’s.
Most notable special friends are April Wiggins and her sons Blake and Hunter, Jim and Beverly Bragg and Susan Conner. Many, many more from the Elks and Lisa’s. Everyone loved Billy and his keen sense of humor, style and wit. He was truly unique.
A celebration of his life will be at the Huntsville Elks lodge on December 22, 2024 from 2-4.
Donations can be made to cancer research, St. Jude or the charity of your choice.
Rest in Peace dear “Backhoe” “Uncle Billy”.
