Lona Fay Washington, age 99, passed away on Sunday, December 15, at her residence in Dallas, Texas. She was born November 1, 1925, to John Warren and Alice Henry Herndon in Randolph, Mississippi. She married Corbet Washington in 1947 and they enjoyed 58 years together before his death in 2005. They were members of Pontotoc United Methodist Church. She attended Wood Junior College and then received her bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University. She loved children and retired after teaching for many years in Memphis.
Graveside service at noon on Thursday, December 19th at City of Pontotoc Cemetery with Bro. Mike Evans officiating. Visitation 10:00 – 11:30 on Thursday, December 19 at Baldwin Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc, MS.
Survivors: One brother, Rodger Dale Herndon and his wife, Carole, of Cordova Tennessee; One daughter, Paula Washington and her husband Mike Clark, of Dallas, Texas; Four grandchildren: Gordon Clark and his wife Hannah of Wabasso, Minnesota, Michael Clark, Jr. and his wife Aly of Edmond, Oklahoma, Walker Clark based at Camp Pendleton, California and currently in the Philippines, and Leigh-Alice Clark of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
She was fond of her bonus granddaughter Truly Clark, Mike’s daughter, of Groton, Connecticut. Seven great-grandchildren (Lancaster, Willa Gray, Lachlan, and Lawrence in Minnesota and Corbet, Winnie, and Cooper in Oklahoma) Four nieces on the Herndon side of the family, fourteen nieces and nephews in Corbet Washington’s family, and many, many cousins and great nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Mondel Herndon and Bill Herndon, and one sister Imogene Washington.
