William “Bill” Young, age 70, of Sheffield passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Visitation will be Friday, December 20, 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Spry~Williams Funeral Home, Florence. Funeral Service will be Saturday, December 21, 10:00 A.M. at Valley Grove Baptist Church where he will lie in state from 9:00-10:00 A.M. Burial will be at Cedar Tree Cemetery in Hackelburg, AL. Pallbearers will be Tim Thomas, Tommy Peters, David Curtis, Denny Weaver, Mike Casteel and Barry Dickerson. Bill was a graduate of Sheffield High School, member of Valley Grove Baptist Church and was retired from Wise Metals. He was a member of Shoals Mustang Club and IBEW 558. Survivors include his wife, Susan Headley Young; son, Chad Young (Heather) of Florence; daughter, Christi Young Atchley (Greg) of Sheffield; step-Sons, Shannon McGee (Amanda) of Byhalia, MS; Brian McGee (Alison) of Hong Kong; step-Daughter: Molly Austin (Kenley) of Florence; sisters, Faye Hand of Elkmont, AL, Winnie Sokoloff of Frederick, MD, Judy Kirk of Ardmore, AL, and Virginia “Suzy” Young of Ardmore, AL; nine Grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or American Cancer Society.
