William ‘Bill’ Ray McFerrin, 71, passed away Saturday. Born in Tupelo, MS, he was raised in Mantachie, MS, where he developed a love for engineering. He attended Mississippi State University and graduated with degree in Electrical Engineering in 1968. After college, he relocated to the Baltimore, MD and was employee by Westinghouse. He and his sons were long time members of the YMCA Indian Guides in Maryland. In 1992 he and his family moved to Huntsville, AL. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. He also volunteered for several years with Habitat for Humanity thru Thrivent. While in Huntsville, Westinghouse was purchased by Northrop Grumman, where he retired after 40 years. Following retirement, he enjoyed skeet shooting at Sharon Johnson Park, woodworking, volunteering at church, and working on electronics and automobiles. He enjoyed watching Mississippi State football, especially when they won.
Mr. McFerrin is survived by his wife of 45 years, Julia McFerrin; sons, Chris, Mike, and David; daughter, Ferrane Wilson; grandson, Evan, of Oakland, TN, parents, Horace and Eunice McFerrin, and brother, Joe Eddy McFerrin of Mantachie, MS.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 13 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church, 3321 South Memorial Parkway, Huntsville, 35801.
