William Allen Chandler-precious Dad, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, passed away Tuesday.
He is survived by his daughter, Catherine Chandler Edwards (Tad); son, William Allen Chandler, Jr. (Becky); four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Bill grew up assisting his parents cotton farming as well as taking care of his three younger siblings. During WWII, he served his country in the Army, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his return he studied at the Traphagen School of Design in New York City and later received a diploma from the Pittsburgh Institute of Art. From there, Bill worked for NASA in the graphics department until his retirement in the early 80’s.
Always a jokester,he never let an opportunity go by without playing all sorts of fun pranks on family, friends and coworkers. Caring and compassionate, he loved all animals, especially his dogs.
Our family is extremely grateful for the many years he was cared for by Dr. Kirk Holdsambeck and his staff. We would also like to thank the precious “family” at Harbor Chase-he adored all of his caregivers. Lastly, we’d like to thank the “angels” that ministered to us at Hospice Family Care. Every nurse and doctor, amazing people of faith, walked along beside us, encouraging and comforting us and our Dad until his very last breath.
There will be a private burial at Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Family Care (huntsvillehospitalfoundation.org, under what hospital unit or fund, scroll down to Hospice Family Care); or A New Leash on Life (anewleash.org).
