Werner Gene “Mac” McCowan, 90, of Huntsville, died Sunday. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Max McCowan and David McCowan, sister, Gertrude Davis, and niece, Brenda Walls.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Barbara J. McCowan; son, Robert E. McCowan; daughter, Sherree L. Starkey and husband, John; granddaughter, Megan L. Starkey; sister, Betty Partrick; nephews and nieces, John Allen McCowan, Bobby Partrick, Charlie Partrick, Carolyn Bond and Max Aten.
One of five children of Carl and Aline McCowan, he was born in Paint Rock and lived most of his younger life in New Hope. He joined the Army in 1950 and was a veteran of the Korean War twice, as well as the Vietnam War. He was stationed in England, Germany, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, and the United States. He married Barbara in England. After retiring from the Army in 1971, he returned to Huntsville where he retired from the Court House as a HVAC tech. He also worked as a HVAC tech for Environmental Systems.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022, followed by a service at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens. Pall bearers will be Billy Richard Colburn, Marvin Martin, John Starkey, Eddie Denton, Riley Denton, and Jesse Denton.
