Mr. Wayne Pettus was born on August 1st, 1958, in Madison County, Alabama to the late Shelby Hammonds and Iretta Wade Pettus. God called him home on Tuesday at 2:29 P.M at Huntsville Hospital with his family at his bedside.
Wayne was educated in the Huntsville City Schools System. He was employed for many years with Hart and Cooley, and he was also a groundmen’s for Oak Park apartments complex until his health would not permit him. Wayne loved his family and he loved to go fishing and football was his passion. Wayne will truly be missed by all that knew him.
Wayne was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Pride, Larry Wade, Rickey Pettus, Shelvey Hammonds, Carl Hammonds, and Glenn Hammonds, one sister, Barbara Hammonds; one stepdaughter, Rosalyn Michele George.
Wayne leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Lidia E Mercado; one loving and caring daughter, O’kemma Hewlett; one loving son, Roniek Hewlett (Tasha); five loving granddaughters, Shamara, E’Lexis, D’Asia, Re’Kiya Hewlett, and Lidia Michele; two caring grandsons, Ke’Shawn and Ja’Taveon Hewlett; three great grandchildren, Ja’Quari Hewlett, Jerrica Hewlett, and Greyson Wayne (Namesake), all of Huntsville, Alabama; two loving sisters, Brenda Briggs and Johnnie Mae Davison of Huntsville, Alabama; three brothers: Phillip Pettus, John Pettus, and Bill (Sylvia) Hammonds all of Huntsville, Alabama; two sister-in-law’s Carmen Estrada and Debbie Pettus; a special aunt, Johnnie P. Wade; one great aunt, Ada Mosley of Huntsville, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends to cherish his memories.
Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Meadowlawn Garden of Peace (450 Mount Lebanon Road, Toney, AL 35773) with Pastor Robert Jefferson officiating. Mr. Pettus will lie in repose thirty minutes prior to service time.
Public viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2023, and 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Royal Funeral Home.
