Wayne George Torgerson, 80, of New Hope, Alabama, passed away on May 24, 2026, in Huntsville, Alabama. Born February 24, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Warren and Jennie Torgerson, he previously resided in Huntsville and Albertville, Alabama; Alexander City, Alabama; and Tempe, Arizona.
He graduated from Tempe High School and furthered his education at Arizona State University, Alexander City Community College, and Mesa Community College.
With over 40 years of experience in manufacturing, engineering, and operations management, his career was defined by a commitment to solving complex technical problems. He owned and operated Torgerson Appliance & Repair in Alexander City and subsequently worked for Sears, Bowater Lumber, SCI Systems, and Intergraph. He spent the final two decades of his career with Palco Telecom as a Principal Engineer, Operations Manager, and independent contractor, continuing his work in hardware diagnosis and telecom services until his passing.
In his younger years, he held private, instrument, and multi-engine aviation ratings, flying for both work and pleasure. He was an avid bowler and was known for his dedication to helping others, which motivated him to continue working as a consultant later in life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah.
He is survived by his sons, William (Donna) and Robert (Rachel); stepsons, Jacob and Jason; stepdaughter, Nikki; grandchildren, William, Andrew, Banks (Carter), Taylor (Kiernan), Grant (Brooke), Sutton, and Ryan; step-grandchildren, Nora and Archer; great-grandsons, Tristan and Myers; and siblings, Alan (Marcia), Nancy (Jack), and Susan (James).
Services will be held on Friday, June 5 at New Hope Funeral Home in New Hope, Alabama. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with the service immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice Family Care in Huntsville, Alabama.
Interment will be in Hayden Cemetery.
