Funeral services for Wanda Thompson Paschal Smith, age 78 of Lineville, will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Lineville with Rev. Christy Noren-Hentz officiating. Burial will follow at the Lineville City Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at UAB Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born in Calhoun County, was a graduate of Anniston High School, and attended and graduated from Jacksonville State University with her MBA in Business. She taught at Saks High School for 15 years. After her retirement from teaching, she went back to school at Gadsden State and became a R.N. She worked with her husband, Dr. George Smith Sr, at the Lineville Clinic for nearly 30 years. Outside of work, Mrs. Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lineville, and she enjoyed helping with meals, aiding in missions in her church and throughout the community. Mrs. Smith is described as detail oriented, generous, and was a great cook. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. George Smith Sr. of Lineville; her sons: Michael Paschal (Tanna Oyler), Dr. Buddy Smith (Jean), both of Lineville, Andy Smith (Lisa) of Huntsville, Scott Smith (Jill) of Dothan, and Ben Smith (Becky) of Loudon, TN; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; her mother, Katherine Kadle Thompson of Lineville; her sister, Kathy Alexander (Stan) of Birmingham, plus numerous nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her father, M. J. Thompson; one granddaughter, Mary Glynn Smith; and two brothers: Jerry and Tommy Thompson.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Paschal, John Paschal, Jamie Thompson, Matthew Smith, Griffin Smith, Bowen Smith, Samuel Smith, and Baylor Smith.
The Fellowship Class of the First United Methodist Church in Lineville will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Her visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and from 8:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. on Thursday.
