FLORENCE-Walk with The American Legion to raise awareness to the 22 veterans a day that commit suicide. “Walk 4 Suicide Awareness” will be held on Saturday October 22 at 8:22 A.M. at Wilson Park in Florence,
“All veterans have our full support and we want to make the public aware of the sacrifices and issues that some men and women have after serving our country. We have to find a way to get every veteran who needs help and get these veterans what they need as soon as possible.” Senior Vice Commander Bill Phillips stated when asked to walk around Wilson Park for 22 minutes to raise awareness about veteran suicide.
Post Commander Nolan Burns stated, “I support the Walk 4 Awareness because of the sacrifices our veterans have made and are making for our country. The American Legion is here to support our veterans and those on active duty right now. We know that around 22 veterans and active duty personnel have committed suicide on average each day – one suicide every 65 minutes.”
263,000 – Veterans and Military Personnel that have committed suicide since 1979.
30% of all military personnel that have served in Iraqi and Afghanistan Conflicts have considered SUICIDE.
Many suicides are under reported
or not reported at all by families.
( Death by cop, death by car wreck or death by overdose are examples of ways veterans have committed suicide…)
