Mrs. Vyva McReynolds Hendrix Vyva McReynolds Hendrix left her earthly body on May 29, 2025. She was born on February 15, 1944 on a thousand-acre ranch in rural southeastern Oklahoma. Her Family moved to Brandon Florida near Tampa Florida in 1960. Her parents were A.B. McReynolds (Brother Mac) and Vivia Dickey McReynolds (Moma Mac). She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Neal Douglas Hendrix and her son and daughter, Neal Douglas Hendrix Jr. and Daphne Hendrix Simpson. Vyva was preceded in death by two sisters, JoAnn Balke and Betty Knell and has two living siblings A.B. McReynolds Jr. and James Clark McReynolds. She has numerous nephews and nieces. Vyva attended the University of South Florida and graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She began her music teaching career with the Hillsborough School System in Florida and continued it in the Madison County and Huntsville City School systems. Vyva taught in both elementary and middle schools. She loved her students and she loved music! Vyva was a Christian and her faith journey led her to membership in the Independent Christian Church, the Episcopal Church and at the end of her life, the Guntersville Church of Christ. She was a founding member of the six people who began the Southside Christian Church congregation in Huntsville Alabama and also was highly instrumental in starting a chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness in Marshall County Alabama and serving as the Chapter president for years. She was involved in many facets of Church and religious activity and worked in Drug Rehabilitation Programs and Kairos Outside, a Ministry to women with loved ones in prison. She loved people and made friends easily. Funeral Service will be Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Carr Funeral Home in Guntersville, Alabama. Visitation will be from noon until time of service. Mrs. Hendrix will be laid to rest at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville, Alabama.
