The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Eighty-one years ago, Virginia Potts was born on the southeast side of Richland Creek in Giles County, TN. That same year, William Widner was born on the other side of the creek.
The Potts and Widner families farmed the bottom lands of Richland Creek for many years. In 1948, Bill and Virginia were married. Steve and Jennie Jo were born to them on the Widner farm. Bill’s life-long profession, the newspaper business, took them to Carthage, TN, where Connie was born, and then to Decatur, AL, where Kay was born. Throughout these travels, the foundation of love and support of the Widner-Potts families never weakened. Virginia cherished her relationships with her children, siblings, and their families.
Virginia gave freely of her time and resources to the betterment of not only her family and friends, but to her ministry of assisting the elderly in her church, Beltline Church of Christ in Decatur.
Virginia Widner left us on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. She will be greatly missed by her four children and their spouses, her ten grandchildren, her sixteen great-grandchildren, her brothers and sister, and a multitude of nephews, nieces, and family friends.
Pallbearers will be Ray Widner, John Tucker, Todd Cagle, Billy Miles, Dennis Reed, and Steve Powers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of North Alabama.
