Betty Jean King Hooker – Obituary

Betty Jean King Hooker, 83, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at the Tishomingo Manor Nursing Home. She was an almost 50 year member of Iuka Baptist Church, and was a Sunday School teacher there for that time. She held other positions in the church including outreach and kitchen committees. She was a local business owner for many years, and was a teacher’s assistant at Iuka Elementary School where she served in her great love for children. Above all she most enjoyed her grandsons and great grandchildren, and staying busy trying to help others. Visitation is scheduled for 12 Noon until 2 PM on Thursday, November 14 at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 PM on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, officiated by Bro. Jim Manley and Bro. Gary Watkins. Interment will follow in Forrest Memorial Park in Corinth. Pallbearers include Marcus Hooker, Jr., Daniel Hooker, Lee Thorne, Ernest Bullard, Hugh Presley, Earl Walker, Mack Wadkins, and Tom White. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Survivors include 1 son – Marcus E. Hooker, Sr. (Mary) of Greenville, MS; 1 daughter – Shelia H. Thorne (David) of Iuka, MS; 1 brother – Donald King of Corinth, MS; 3 grandsons – Marcus E. Hooker, Jr. (E) of Greenville, MS; Daniel R. Hooker (Lynn) of Greenville, MS: and Lee Thorne of Iuka, MS; 6 great grandchildren – Mattie, Mark, Mary Glenn, Hannah Katherine, Sarah Reed, and Campbell Hooker, all of Greenville, MS; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Lee Hooker; a grandson, Matthew Scott Hooker; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hooker King; and a sister, Louise King Taylor.
