Virginia Jo Privett Payne, 93, of Madison, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022. Mrs. Payne was born January 20, 1929, in Inman, Tennessee. She married Robert Starling Payne on November 11, 1951. God gave them 71 wonderful years together.
Mrs. Payne was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church in Tennessee, but had attended the Bicentennial Chapel on Redstone Arsenal for several years. She graduated from Marion County High School in Jasper, TN and attended Edmonson College in Chattanooga, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Kay Privett and Gussie DeEtte Hall Privett; brothers, Arnold Van Privett and Wayne Hall Privett; and sister, June Privett Bowlin.
Survivors include sons, James Michael Payne (Sheila) and Dr. Douglas Starling Payne (Nikolina); and grandchildren, Jennifer Rebecca Payne (Levi), Katherine Ashley Payne Carpenter (Jeff), and Robert Starling Payne.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 11:00 EST Monday, Oct. 24, 2022, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
