Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Brand, age 79 of Ashland, will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. Jim Sims and Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at New Beginnings Ministry at Chandler Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Brand passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Clay County Nursing Home. A lifelong resident of Clay County, she worked most of her life as a housekeeper with Clay County Home Health. She was a crafter that loved painting and sewing. Mrs. Brand was very active in her church; if the doors were open, she was there. Whether it was to help clean or help with functions, she was always involved. She definitely had a green thumb and enjoyed her flowers, gardening and canning. Mrs. Brand was a very caring, generous and selfless person. She was a people person and a natural caregiver. She would help anyone with anything; even after going into the nursing home, she would still help take care of her fellow residents. Mrs. Brand loved her grandkids, her puppy dogs, her family, friends and anything red. We would like to say thank you to Clay County Nursing Home, Hospice of Clay County and her special niece, Cindy Denney, for your help with taking care of momma. Mrs. Brand was a member of House of Prayer Ministries.
She is survived by two daughters: Beverly McVey and Jeanette Johnson (Jessie), both of Ashland, her brother, Marion Hill of Lineville, three grandchildren: Brandon McVey (Melissa), Jonathan McVey (Bethany) and Jessica Glow (Seth), seven great-grandchildren: Emily McVey, Anna Belle McVey, Lane McVey, Lilly McVey, Aiden Shirey, Libby Ann McVey and Rhyan Glow.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Brand, her parents, William Wallace and Lily Florence Hill, four brothers: Edward, LeRoy, Levi and Floyd Hill, and her sister Bertha Lee Mitchell.
Active Pallbearers will be: Tony Hill, Rick Mitchell, Jonathan McVey, Seth Glow, Willie Ray Hill and Jimmy Brand.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 11:00 A.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M.
