Veva Elizabeth Free (Beck) – Obituary

Veva Elizabeth Free (Beck) transitioned peacefully to eternal life surrounded by loved ones on January 12, 2019. Veva earned a BA from the University of Georgia, a Master’s of Special Education from the University of North Alabama and enjoyed a successful thirty-year career as a teacher in the Florence Public Schools specializing in deaf education and special education. Friends know she was devoted to her family, a master gardener, gifted artist and musician, wonderful storyteller, and civic activist for many years in Florence.

In 2013 Veva moved to Alexandria, Virginia where she made many new friends at Saint Luke’s Church, Paul Springs Retirement Community, and Spring Hills Assisted Living.

She is survived by siblings, Donna Conte of Warren, Michigan and Charles Beck (Sue) of Windsor, Colorado; daughters, Anne Free of Corinth, Mississippi and Delea Bowerfind (Tuck) of Alexandria, Virginia; grandchildren, Tiffany Joly (Matt Calise), George, Dorothy and Elizabeth Bowerfind of Alexandria, Virginia; Amber Dean (Bo) of Iuka, Mississippi; Christopher Solis (Lucy) of Russellville, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Archer Calise; Jiraiyah and Sahara Dean; Renton, Dakotah, Rowen and Eryn Solis; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19th at Saint Luke’s Church.
