Mrs. Vera Estella Johnston  Mrs. Vera Estella Johnston of the Highland Community in Lacey’s Spring, Alabama; passed away on the afternoon of Saturday – October 24, 2020 at the age of 79 years.
Mrs. Johnston was born on February 28, 1941 in Jefferson County, Alabama to Rev. Fred O. Brown Sr. and Irma C. Parker Brown. Mrs. Johnston devoted her life to teaching and ministering children. She taught kindergarten at Willow Brook Baptist Church School in Huntsville, Alabama, for many years and then taught Sunday School and Bible School at Highland Baptist Church in Morgan City, Alabama, where she was a founding member. In her free time, she enjoyed activities such as; painting, ceramics, creating greeting cards, and being with family.
Mrs. Johnston will be forever remembered by her beloved husband of 61 years, James D. Johnston Sr.; sons, James D. “Rocky” Johnston Jr. (Renee), Steven Wade Johnston (Donna) and Timothy Eric Johnston (Charlene); sisters, Peggy Brown Mooney and Carolyn Brown Tomanio as well as 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents; Rev. Fred O. Brown Sr. and Irma C. Parker Brown, Mrs. Johnston is at last reunited with her brothers, Fred O. Brown Jr. and Howard Lavere Brown; and granddaughter Delinda Howell Coleman.
A Visitation will take place at the Brindlee Mountain Chapel in Morgan City, Alabama on Thursday – October 29, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. until service time.
Funeral Services will take place at the Brindlee Mountain Chapel in Morgan City, Alabama on Thursday – October 29, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Craye Hall and Bro. Freddie Childs, officiating.
interment will follow services immediatly at the Highland Cemetery with pallbearers; Ron Legowik, Jordan Walters, Nick Maddox, John Mockaitis, Dewayne Phillips, Junior Bostic escorting Mrs. Johnston to her final resting place.
