MONTGOMERY– As a reminder, Alabama is currently under a limited, narrowly-focused state of emergency for covid-19. Here is an update on that:

The current narrowly-focused state of emergency for covid-19 is aimed at easing burdens on health care providers and making government more responsive. The proclamation was issued on August 13, 2021 and is set to expire this Tuesday, October 12. That is being amended to end on October 31, 2021.

Alabama is making strides on the Covid-front as more and more Alabamians get their covid-19 vaccines and as hospitalizations and cases decline. Between early September and late this week, the number of newly reported covid-19 cases per day in Alabama dropped more than 70 percent, and the number of covid-19 patients in Alabama hospitals dropped by about 60 percent, based on seven-day averages of cases and hospitalizations as reported daily by the Alabama Department of Public Health.

All provisions included in the August 13, 2021 proclamation shall remain in full force and effect according to the terms of that proclamation.
