TUSCUMBIA-Tuscumbia Civitan Club announces the production and sale of the 2015 Civitan Christmas Ornament, the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. The two-dimensional brass ornament depicting the popular tourist attraction is the twentieth in a series of local landmarks which have been sold annually. Ornaments from previous years include the Helen Keller Birthplace, Colbert County Courthouse, Spring Park, Cold Water Falls, Tuscumbia Railroad Depot, St. John’s Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church, Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church, The Palace, Buzzard Roost Bridge, the Winston Home, Howard Chappell Stadium, and the Tennessee Valley Country Club.
Each of the new ornaments depicting the Alabama Music Hall of Fame is accompanied by written information about the museum. The Alabama Music Hall of Fame was the dream of the Muscle Shoals Music Association to showcase the famous Muscle Shoals sound and to honor Alabamians who have shaped America’s Music. Since its opening in 1990, the museum has drawn thousands to discover the many contributions, from songwriting to performance, management to publishing, and all aspects in between. As of 2015 there have been some seventy inductees and hundreds are honored through exhibits. The grand entry doors, which are prominently displayed on the ornament, represent gold and platinum records made in the “Hit Recording Capital of the World.”
Ninon Parker, spokesperson for the Tuscumbia Civitan Club ornament sales said that this year’s ornament marks a milestone, since this is the twentieth year that an ornament has been produced by the club. Those who buy the ornaments each year will be pleased to add this one to their collection. Proceeds from the sale of Christmas ornaments and the
club’s companion project, Claxton Fruit Cake sales, benefit the community in charitable and civic endeavors undertaken throughout the year.
“With growing attention to Muscle Shoals music, this is the perfect year to honor the Alabama Music Hall of Fame and its role in promoting the state’s rich music heritage and the special contributions by our own area’s talented musicians and producers. The entire Shoals area is enriched by its music and Tuscumbia is proud to have the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in our own backyard,” Parker said.
The 2015 Christmas ornaments, priced at $15.00 each, are on sale at Cold Water Books, Fiddledee D!, The Palace, Helen Keller Library, the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, Colbert County Tourism Office, Bank Independent, First Metro, TVA Credit Union, Valley Federal Credit Union or from Civitan members. Several ornaments from previous years remain available and are highly prized.
