FLORENCE-Florence Arts and Museums is excited to launch the Junior Museum Program, a hands-on educational opportunity for students ages 12-18. Led by museum professionals Ana Peeples and Michael Asher, the program will provide participants with the chance to collaborate on designing and creating an exhibit at the Florence Indian Mound Museum.
The program will run bi-weekly from January to May 2025, with sessions being held from 4:00–5:00 p.m. at the Florence Indian Mound Museum, located at 1028 S Court Street, Florence, AL 35630.
This free, interactive program allows students to explore the inner workings of museums and historic sites. Participants will gain insight into the processes of research, writing, and interpreting history, while working on a collaborative project to design and curate an exhibit at the Florence Indian Mound Museum. By the end of the program, students will have developed valuable skills in research, critical thinking, collections management, artifact curation, and exhibit design.
Interested students and families are encouraged to apply through the Florence Arts and Museums website. Applications are open now.
The Florence Indian Mound Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information, or for any questions about the program, please contact the museum at (256) 760-6427 or email connect@florencealmuseums.com.
