ATHENS-A band that debuted in 2005 with a mission to “serve the world one ear at a time” will return to its Athens roots
on Saturday.
Plato Jones, a Tuscaloosa-based cover band comprised of Athens natives, performs throughout Alabama,
Mississippi and Florida. The high-energy band performs funk, Southern rock, classic rock and other types of
music.
The band will perform on Marion Street on The Square from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, to kick off the annual
Art After Hours concert series. The concert is presented by Athens Arts League with support from Athens-
Limestone Tourism Association.
“Those who love Plato Jones or who are curious about the band with an Athens tie will have a fantastic time at
this concert,” said Athens Arts League Vice President Jennifer Hilton Sampieri, who oversees the Art After
Hours events.
The band is asking its fans to attend the downtown Athens show because the members would “love to see
some familiar faces,” promising “an evening of live music from yours truly.”
Art After Hours will also feature artist vendors and an art station where children can create. The concert and art
station are free. Vendors will have art items for sale. Athens Arts League encourages spectators to dine at one
of the local restaurants downtown prior to the concert.
The concert is sponsored by Sen. Tim Melson through an Alabama Tourism Department grant, Morell
Engineering and Athens-Limestone Tourism Association.
Additional Art After Hours concert dates are:
June 28 with 3 Savile Row, a Beatles tribute band.
July 5 with JED-Eye, featuring the Rocket City Starlets for a Fourth of July weekend bash.
