Trudy Lynn Thomas Trudy Lynn Thomas, age 72, of Haleyville passed away Friday, April 5, 2024 at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, AL. She was married to her loving husband, Dwight, for 53 years. They had two sons, Craig (Samantha) Thomas and Chad Thomas. The light in Trudy’s eyes were her grandchildren, Vera Berlin and Conner. Trudy described becoming NaeNae to her grandchildren as the greatest joy she had ever known, and she enjoyed laughing and playing with them until her final days.

Her visitation will be Tuesday April 9, 2024 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville, AL. Funeral service on Wednesday April 10, 2024 at 11:00AM in the chapel, with Bro. Mitch Nethery officiating. Burial to follow in Winston Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers, Tim Cox, Kevin Williams, Jeff Hood, Terry Gravitt, Joel Heard and Robert Heard.

Trudy was the youngest of six children to Herbert and Eunice Gravitt. She is survived by three sisters: Ann Heard Foster, Francis Hood, and Joan (Dewey) Scott. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Talmadge Gravitt and Terry Gravitt.

Trudy was a graduate of Haleyville High School Class of 1969 and was a member of Haleyville Methodist Church for more than fifty years. She was also a member of the Nell Corbin Circle at her church and enjoyed spending quality time with her small group in Bible Study and prayer. Trudy served multiple leadership roles for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for the past forty years, serving at the local, district, and state levels, including President for more than twenty-five years. Assisting and supporting veterans was one of Trudy’s passions in life. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and she worked for many years as a teacher at the Kiddie Kollege as well as a caretaker for the sick and elderly in her community.

Trudy lived a Christ-centered, selfless life of serving others. She loved and cared for her family with every breath, and she would give the shirt off her back to help those in need in her community. She spent her days working with her flowers and in her garden. She enjoyed cooking and baking, ensuring no one ever left her home hungry.

Her family knows, without one doubt, she entered through the Pearly Gates when her Savior called her home. We know she rejoiced when she was able to meet her child and two grandchildren who she was never able to hold in her arms, and she was welcomed by the many family members who had gone on before.

In lieu of flowers, the Thomas family asks for donations to the Haleyville Methodist Church or the V.F.W. Post 4543 in her memory.
