Trolley And Walking Tours In Tuscumbia In March And April

Image result for tuscumbia trolley toursTUSCUMBIA-Our City of Tuscumbia Bicentennial Commission is delighted to announce the following Bicentennial events and activities.

Tuscumbia will have Bicentennial Trolley Tours every Saturday morning sponsored by the City of Tuscumbia Bicentennial Commission. All of the tours depart Coldwater Books at 10 am.

Bicentennial Walking Tours of town & homes will be held every Saturday morning sponsored by Colbert County Tourism. All tours depart Coldwater Books at 10 am each Saturday in April. All walking tours are free of charge and open to the public.

March 2019

Saturday, March 1
Rails to River Tour – Learn why Tuscumbia is known as the First Frontier Railroad Town West of the Alleghenies during this interactive tour sharing the City’s fascinating rail history. From mule-drawn trains to the new-fangled steam engine, the rail industry shaped Tuscumbia’s early years. Includes tours of the Tuscumbia Depot & Tuscumbia Landing.

Saturday, March 9
We Rocked the World: Exploring the Musical Heritage of the Shoals – Tour local recording studios, hear behind-the-scenes stories about the Shoals recording industry and maybe even record a song yourself!

Saturday, March 16

Miracle Ride: Helen Keller in Living History – Learn the amazing story of Helen Keller, led by her great niece, Keller Johnson Thompson. Includes a tour of Ivy Green, Keller’s birthplace.

Saturday, March 23
Faith of our Fathers Historic Church Tour – Explore the architecture and history of Tuscumbia’s oldest churches as you learn how the faith of our fathers impacted the growth of Tuscumbia. Includes tours of First Presbyterian, Lesley Temple and First Baptist.
Docents: Ron Hudson and Lt. Col. Arthur Graves

Saturday, March 30
A Governor, a Grand Home and its Ghost – Hear interesting stories about Alabama’s own foreign-born governor, Tuscumbia’s Gov. Lindsey, his famous daughter, Maud Lindsey, and Tuscumbia’s famous Winston family as you tour the beautiful (and some say haunted) Winston Home.

April 2019

April 6-7, 2019
Heinie Manush Day
– Take me out the ballpark for an old-fashioned baseball game honoring Tuscumbia’s legendary professional baseball player, Heinie Manush. This three-day event honors the Tuscumbia Hall of Famer with unique activities and events, including a tour of his home, baseball clinics for kids and his biographer’s book signing at Coldwater Books. Travel back in time on April 7 as you take in an old-fashioned vintage baseball game at Heinie Manush Field.
