DECATUR-Another Arrest by Decatur Police. Traffic stop results in felony charges. Here is how the Decatur Police describe the events:
“SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:
On 2/8/14, Decatur Police Patrol Officer Stephen Bowen conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 31s near Cedar Lake Rd.
During the stop, he discovered a .45caliber pistol in the possession of Yuri Sanchez Griffin. Griffin was charged with Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit.
The Decatur Police Violent Crimes Unit discovered that Griffin was a convicted felon, having been convicted of crimes of violence under the Alabama Code.
Sgt George Silvestri obtained a warrant for Griffin’s arrest. Griffin was on probation for other charges and was arrested on a Probation Violation charge and put in the Morgan Co Jail.
On 4/29/14, Ofcs Keith Rutherford and Josh Heflin went to the Morgan Co Jail and brought Griffin to the Decatur City Jail, so the warrant could be served on him. He was then transferred back to the Morgan Co Jail in lieu of a $2500.00 bond. He is also still being held on the Probation Revocation Charge.
Section 13A-11-72
Certain persons forbidden to possess pistol.
(a) No person who has been convicted in this state or elsewhere of committing or attempting to commit a crime of violence shall own a pistol or have one in his or her possession or under his or her control.”
