It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Tommie Ray Turbyfill, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Tommie passed away peacefully on June 2nd at the age of 78.
Born on September 14th, 1947. He dedicated his life to family, work, service to his country, and serving others. He was a member of Killen Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, and in earlier years farming and woodworking. He was a fixer of anything.
At the age of 17 he was drafted to serve in the Vietnam war. He was awarded a Bronze Star with Valor, along with other medals during the time of service.
Above all, Tommy treasured his family and spent many years teaching his grandsons life lessons.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathy Grigsby Turbyfill. Daughter, Heather Lawson and husband Chris. Grandsons, Sam Lawson (Malory), Taylor Lawson (Amanda) and Chase Lawson. Brother, Donnie Turbyfill. Sisters, Clara Johnston and Mary Nell Turbyfill. Many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Oscar and Velma Sharp Turbyfill. Brothers – Jerry Lynn Turbyfill and Charles Turbyfill. Sister Betty Elmore.
A celebration of his life will be Friday-June 5th 1:00pm at Elkins East Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, June 4th from 6:00-8:00pm.
