Funeral service for Mr. Thomas Wilburn Sumners, age 94 of Fayetteville, will be conducted Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 3 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Van Johnson officiating. Mr. Sumners passed away Friday March 6, 2015 at his home.
A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Leon and Clara Mae Sumners. He was owner of Sumnerโ€™s Cafeโ€™ and loved hunting and fishing. Mr. Sumners enjoyed pulling Skiers with his boat, and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Sybil Rives Sumners; children Bonnie (Terry) Reavis, and Mike (Cheryl) Sumners; step-children Larry (Peggy) Marshall, and Chris (Mr. Sumnerโ€™s caregiver, Lynn) Counts; grandchildren Allison Reavis, Nicole (Keith) White, and Cole (Donna) Sumners; several step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchilren all of Fayetteville; and brother Mark Sumners of Hendersonville. Mr. Sumners was preceded in death by his first wife Wilba Elizabeth Maddox Sumners; a infant son Thomas Wilburn Sumners, Jr; and a brother James Cole Sumners.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday from 1 until 3 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the local VFW or the Alzheimerโ€™s Association.
