Thomas Mitchell Barron, USN (PO2, Ret), 59, of Woodville, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, Washington after a brief battle with cancer.
Tom is survived by his wife of 10 years, Ginger Barron (Stephens) of Woodville. He is survived by three children: Thomas Jr., Charles, and James, and grandchildren, Mitchell, Savannah, and Raymond, all of the Sequim, Washington area. He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggie Carter Barron of Woodville. He also leaves behind a father: George Barron of Woodville, four siblings: Douglas, Robert, David, and Peggie, multiple nephews, and nieces. He also leaves behind a “fur-baby”, a Service Dog named Sambo.
Tom served the United States Navy with distinction as a lithographer before his retirement in 2003 after 24 years of active service as a Petty Officer Second Class (PO2). He began his Navy career aboard the USS Puget Sound (AD-38) with the Sixth Fleet sailing out of Gaeta, Italy from 11/79 – 1/83. He served aboard the USS Long Beach (CGN-9) with the WestPac out of San Diego, CA from 8/84 – 2/88. He served aboard the USS Tripoli (LPH-10) with the WestPac out of San Diego, CA from 8/91 – 9/95. During his time aboard the USS Tripoli, the ship was called to action during Operation Desert Storm. Tom ended his time in shipboard service aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN-68) completing a world tour at sea in his final years of sea-duty. His service awards included: Navy Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2 awards), and the Battle “E” Award.
Services will be held at the Scottsboro Funeral Home, 1502 County Park Road, Scottsboro, AL. The family will receive visitors at that location on Thursday, June 13 from 4-8pm. The funeral services will be on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 11:00. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 7995 Co Rd 8 Woodville, AL 35776 with Military Honors.
