Thomas Arthur “Tommy” Williams, 89, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024 at his residence. Tommy was born in Belgreen, AL as the second of six children to Arthur & Ruvie (Thorn) Williams.  Early in his life he made a profession of his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized. He served as a deacon at Atwood Baptist Church and later in life was a member at First Baptist Church, Red Bay and most recently First Baptist Church, Vina.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force for 3&1/2 years, the next few years were filled with college, work, meeting and marrying Jane Browning and the birth of their three children. He finally became a math teacher at Vina High School, where his former students still fondly recall how Mr. Williams’ teaching made math interesting and fun to learn.

Retirement eventually came and then, after fifty years of marriage, Tommy’s wife, Jane, passed away in 2009.  In 2022 Tommy was re-acquainted with someone he had known for a long time, Carolyn Pharr.  They started dating and married in May, 2022.

We will remember Tommy Williams for his many funny stories, his sense of humor, his quiet way of helping others, his generous support of Hodges City Park and his love of the Lord and his family.

Memorial services will be Saturday, April 27, 2 p.m. at Vina First Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Atwood Cemetery, Hodges, AL. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Carolyn Pharr Williams; his son, Tony Williams; daughter, LeAnn Hastings (Todd); seven grandchildren; 5½ great-grandchildren; one brother, Phillip Williams (Kim) and two sisters, Pat Shifflett and Gwendolyn Smith (Bob).

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Browning Williams, their daughter, Tammy Williams-Haines and his parents.
