Thena Pearl Dean Groover, 85, of Decatur, passed away on July 15, 2014 at River City Care and Rehab. Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jeri Hunt, her niece, officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Groover was born July 30, 1928 to Martin L. Dean and Daisy Harding Dean. She was a Bell South retiree after 30 years of service and after her retirement became a college student at the age of 60 and earned an Associate’s Degree in Photography from Calhoun College. She spent many happy days photographing her family, her gardens, and vacations with her husband Ed.
Mrs. Groover was preceded in death by her husband: Roy E. Groover, sisters: Ezelle Cook, Florene Headrick, Ethel Howard, and Bealuh Hunt.
Mrs. Groover is survived by her sons: Robert Sandusky of Trussville, AL., and William Briscoe (Sparvin) of Roswell, GA., daughter: Betty S. Metcalf (Jack, Jr.) of Decatur, AL., sister: Dorothy Davis of Cullman, AL., grandchildren: Jon Metcalf, Jackie Mullins, Jan Kennedy, Al Metcalf, Ashley B. Thompson, Joshua Briscoe, Robert W. Sandusky, Christopher Sandusky, and William Sandusky, great-grandchildren: Spencer Mullins, Faeryn Kennedy, Lachlan Kennedy, Sarah Freeman, Alyssa Metcalf, and Chloe Metcalf.
Pallbearers will be family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
