SHEFFIELD-The Slag just keeps hitting it out of the park with bands, fun and proving to be a great little venue.  This past weekend the weather was better the crowds were awesome and the music rocked the house.

From Country to Rap with a little hard rock on the side…who could ask for more.

On Friday night Justin Champagne got the night rollin’ with some hot rap and a whole lotta fun.  Champagne was followed by County/Rap/Rock artist Colt Ford who did not disappoint the crowd.  He brought it all to the plate and had the crowd standing and dancing to the beat.

On Saturday the hot rock licks of deFrance started the night followed by the legendary The Marshall Tucker Band to round out an already rowdy Saturday. The place to be on a hot summer night is The Slag you really must try it out it keeps getting better and better.

All in all the weather was great, the food was delish, and there was plenty of cold drinks to go around.  The Slag is quickly becoming the go-to venue for music fun and just a great place to be.

Next week the music will just get hotter with Stoney LaRue and Ben Haggard. Tickets are $30.00 for general admission and $50.00 for VIP.  Doors will open at 5:00 PM and the show starts at 6:00 PM.  This show promises to bring the house down with some of the best Country music around. Throw away any preconceived notions you might have about country singers — especially ones from Texas — because Stoney LaRue smashes them all. Over a nearly 20-year career, the Lone Star-born and Oklahoma-raised LaRue has transformed himself into an unlikely Renaissance man. He is a deft songwriter, informed traveler and self-aware philosopher, a troubadour who converses just as easily about Indian yogis and gurus as he does about Texas barbecue and dance halls. LaRue highlights all facets of his complex persona on the inspiring new album Onward.

“You have to be willing to live it. That’s the only way to make it, and the way that I’ve made it,” says LaRue of his remarkable longevity. “But I’m not haphazard in what I’m writing or singing anymore. I’m more focused and looking ahead to what I want to achieve.”

In other words, Stoney LaRue is looking Onward.

Ben Haggard has definitely made a name early in the country music arena as the youngest son of the late American country music singer, songwriter, and guitarist Merle Haggard. As a kid born with his father’s music legacy, it can be hard to step out of the shadows. But with his amazing talent, it is not surprising that he is creating a name and sound of his own in the industry.

At the age of 15, he was named lead guitarist of his dad’s band, the Strangers.  Ben admitted later on that he was overwhelmed with the daunting task as he was plagued with stage fright. Additionally, he was standing and playing with other great musicians like musical director Norm Hamlet and guitarist Scott.

Ben’s musical personality is influenced by his father. As he creates his sound in country music, Ben admitted that he was like his father, who feels a bit of an outsider in the contemporary country music category. He wanted to write and sing songs that he values within his heart. Ben released his song “As Haggard as They Come” in 2019. This was a tribute song he wrote for his late father, which he performed on June 26, 2019, at the Grand Ole Opry.
