The evening began with a couple of tacos… It ended with a brand-new Colonel!

SHEFFIELD – Every Monday a small band of friends gathers at a Mexican Restaurant to share stories, have a margarita or two, eat a quesadilla. They’ve been having this ritual for a few years, and while the evenings are always fun, the one that was held most recently was a bit different.

Verna Brennan had plans.

Nobody else, least of all Billy Don Anderson, knew what was to happen next. And no… Nobody was proposing to anybody. Nothing like that.

Everybody finished with their Mexican fare. Brennan stood up and called for everybody’s attention. Then she called Anderson to stand up.

She reached into the big brown envelope and withdrew the parchment.

That night, Billy Don Anderson became the newest “Kentucky Colonel”.
