Tennessee Valley Arts Association Presents Indigo and Botanical Textile Prints with Nadene Maireese

TUSCUMBIA-Join Nadene Maireese of Idyllwilde on Saturday, August 10th from
10am – 2pm (with 15 minute coffee and snacks break, and half-hour lunch break) for an
workshop introduction to Indigo and Botanical Textile Prints in the Ritz Theatre Set Shop,
located at 111 West 3rd Street, Sheffield, AL 35660.

In this 4 hour workshop, Nadene will instruct the following: combining two natural dye
techniques to create botanical textile prints, review the origins and many applications of indigo
dye as students learn various “ resist” techniques such as folding and clamping to create

patterns on indigo-dyed cotton fabric, and layer foraged plants, and flowers from the Idyllwilde
Dye Garden over indigo print and steam print the botanicals onto fabric.

Nadene Mairesse is a Florence, Alabama- based designer and maker whose work lies at the
intersection of nature and material culture. Her design and natural dye studio Idyllwilde
incorporates plant-based dyes, natural fiber textiles and handcraft to produce hand dyed
textiles, garments and home provisions. Nadene has led natural dye and handcraft skills
workshops throughout the Southeast region since 2015. She earned her BA in French
Literature at UCLA, and her B.Architecture and B.InteriorArchitecture at Auburn University.
