DECATUR – Synergy Sports, Limestone County, the City of
Decatur, and Crossroads LLC, today announced a cooperative eEort to bring a mixed-use
development, anchored by a southeast regional sports complex, to the crossroads of the
Tennessee Valley. The North Alabama development will be located on Hwy 20, a mile west
of the I-65 Huntsville-Decatur interchange. In addition to the sports complex, the
development will include complementary mixed-use retail, residential, hotel and
hospitality, and family entertainment designed to serve both visitors and residents.
The proposed development represents a significant investment in the future of the region
by creating a destination venue capable of attracting tournaments, teams, and families
from across Alabama, Tennessee and the Southeast – thus a regional venue. In addition to
the sports component, the project vision includes complementary mixed-use development
that can support long-term economic activity, broaden local amenities, and strengthen the
area’s appeal as a place to visit, live, and do business.
Sports tourism brings meaningful benefits to communities by generating visitor spending at
local hotels, restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues; increasing tax revenue;
supporting small businesses; creating jobs; and raising a region’s profile as a destination
for future investment and development. For many communities, well-planned sports
facilities also become catalysts for nearby commercial growth and infrastructure
improvements while creating year-round activity that benefits local families and
businesses.
The planned sports complex is envisioned as a collection of diamonds for baseball and
softball, flat fields for soccer, flag football, lacrosse, and other field sports, as well as a
future indoor facility to expand programming opportunities. Beyond its role as a sports
tourism engine, the complex will be an important community asset that gives local
residents a better place to play, compete, gather, and enjoy high-quality recreational
experiences close to home.
Synergy Sports, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, is assisting with the project and helping
guide the sports tourism planning process. The organization’s experience in sports facility
strategy and destination development is expected to support the partnership as it
advances planning, public engagement, and implementation.
Additional details about the proposed development and sports project will be shared at a
public event in the next one to two months, when project partners will officially announce
the initiative and present more information about the vision, proposed uses, and next
steps.
