Suspicious Call Leads to Foot Pursuit, Recovered Stolen Car, and Felony Charges

FLORENCE-As reported by the Florence Police Department:

Florence Police have arrested Cody Dylan Thompson, 22, of Tuscumbia and Deangelo Lee Melendez, 20, of Muscle Shoals and charged both with multiple crimes. Police responded to a suspicious persons call this afternoon in the area of Regency Square Mall. As officers arrived, the occupants of a 2010 Chrysler 300 fled on foot leading police on a chase throughout the area surrounding Regency Mall. In total 4 suspects were detained at the scene. Following interviews with detectives, Thompson was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct, Attempting to Elude Police, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. Melendez was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct, Attempting to Elude Police, Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, and Felony False Information. (Melendez initially provided police with false identification. It was later found that he had Felony Warrants from Madison County.) Additionally, the vehicle they were driving was reported stolen in December from Huntsville. Charges related to the stolen vehicle are pending. Both Thompson and Melendez are currently being held in the LCDC.
